Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the AAM Fundamentals course?

The AAM Fundamentals course is a 100-hour course that covers all the essentials of permanent makeup, including sanitation, skin anatomy, color theory, mapping and more. The course is partially online and includes a 6-day hands-on component where you will learn the Ombre Brows, Lip Blush, and Eyeliner Tattoo (Eyelash Enhancement) techniques. You will also perform 6 model procedures (2 Ombre Brows, 2 Lip Blush, and 2 Eyeliner procedures) as part of the Fundamentals course within those 6 days.

What are the New Jersey state licensing requirements for permanent makeup?

To legally perform permanent makeup in New Jersey, you are required to complete the AAM Fundamentals course, which is a 100-hour program that covers everything from skin anatomy and color theory to the latest techniques in eyebrow, eyeliner, and lip cosmetic tattooing. During the 6 days of hands-on training, the students will be required to complete 6 model procedures (2 ombre brows, 2 lip blush and 2 eyeliner).

In addition to the Fundamentals course, New Jersey requires an apprenticeship where the students will need to complete 9 additional model procedures (3 ombre brows, 3 lip blush & 3 eyeliner). These procedures can be completed at any time after the Fundamentals course and can be scheduled using our online model scheduling system. The cost of each additional procedure is $400, although some students opt to supplement the cost by charging their models.

Once you’ve completed the AAM Fundamentals course and the required number of model procedures, you’ll be eligible to take the AAM Board Exam and become certified to perform permanent makeup in New Jersey. We’re committed to helping our students achieve success in the industry, and we’re here to provide support and guidance every step of the way.

What are the class hours for the AAM Fundamentals course?

The AAM Fundamentals course provides comprehensive training in permanent makeup techniques. The class meets for six days, Monday through Saturday, with specific hours varying depending on the day.

Monday through Wednesday, class hours are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. On these days, you’ll receive in-depth instruction on topics such as skin anatomy, color theory, and mapping, as well as hands-on practice in techniques such as ombre brows, lip blush, and eyeliner enhancement.

Thursday through Saturday are model procedure days, where you’ll have the opportunity to apply your skills on live models. Class will still start at 9:00 am on these days, but the end time will vary depending on the time slots chosen by the models. On Thursdays and Fridays, class can run as late as 7:30 pm, while Saturdays typically end by 5:00 pm.

How many students are typically enrolled in the AAM Fundamentals course?

We limit each AAM Fundamentals class to a maximum of 4 students. This allows us to provide individualized attention and hands-on training to each student. With a small class size, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, receive personalized feedback, and get the most out of your training. Our small class size also allows us to ensure that each student has ample time to practice on live models during the model procedure days, so you can build your confidence and hone your skills in a supportive environment.

Is the AAM Fundamentals course only for New Jersey residents?

The AAM Fundamentals course is open to anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in permanent makeup, regardless of where you live. If you’re interested in becoming board certified in permanent makeup in a state other than New Jersey, you can still take this course. The only difference is that you won’t be required to complete the additional 9 model procedures that are required for New Jersey licensing. Instead, you’ll only need to complete the 6 model procedures that are included in the AAM Fundamentals course.

We believe that our course provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date training available in the industry, and we’re committed to helping our students achieve success in whatever state they choose to practice in.
